The lion king is a name which does not
need any introduction. It all began with a Disney feature animated
cartoon movie which was formed by Disney Pictures in the year 1994.
The animated musical adventure film was released on 15th
June, 1994 in United States. It was directed by Roger Allers and Rob
Minkoff and had characters which include Simba, Timon, Mufasa,
Shenzi, Scar, Ed the Hyena and many more. The movie had several songs
which included ‘can you feel the love tonight’, ‘circle of
life’ and ‘hakuna matata’ as the most popular and featured ones
alongside many others.
After the massive popularity of the
animated feature film, the Disney studios decided to produce a
theatrical production of the same. The lion king musical was launched
at the Broadway three years later in 1997. This adaption of Disney
animated film premiered on 15th October, 1997 at Broadway,
New Amsterdam Theatre whereas was officially opened on 13th
November, 1997. The records as well as the statistics show that Lion
King is one of the longest running Broadway musicals in the history
and after seventeen years, it yet remains highly acclaimed musical
across kids as well as adults.
