Theatre review: The Lion King returns to Place des Arts

The Lion King is one of the world’s most popular entertainment extravaganzas and due to its awe-inspiring story, terrific music, incredible characters and artfully designed puppets it has received numerous awards and recognitions globally. The lion king musical has also become one of the longest ever musicals on the theatre scenario. According to the critics, the audiences do not find it enough to watch the lion king once. Many of them have watched this musical for as many as three times and they won’t step back if they are given a chance to watch it for the fourth time.
In fact, the lion king production team is also of the opinion that one viewing is simply not enough to fully absorb the multi-faceted and magical appeal of this show to the senses. The show is making a comeback to the Montreal’s Place Des Arts three years after its first run at the same place in the year 2011 and according to the experts, many of those audiences who caught the show at the first time would be returning this time yet again with or without children in tow. The highly inspiring direction of Julie Taymor makes this musical a sheer masterpiece.

Michael Curry has presented his artistry by masterfully designing the puppets along with support of Julie Taymor. The puppets used in this musical include shadowy images on screens to the towering giraffe. Moreover, there can’t be a wondrous thing as the heart of leaping gazelles mounted on a bicycle. As the show starts, we see the entrance of some of the world’s largest puppet animals make an entrance. This entrance by the huge puppet animals gives the show a thrilling start. So if you are a resident of Montreal, this show is not to be missed!
